AHRP’s mission is to ensure that the moral right of voluntary medical decision-making is upheld. To accomplish that mission, we engage in an educational campaign, providing relevant factual information including ethical, legal, technical reports, and media reports. We endeavor to counter widely disseminated false claims that exaggerate the benefits of medical interventions, while minimizing risks.
Our educational efforts are directed at both professionals and the lay public, who may be unaware of a body of suppressed scientific evidence that refutes false promotional claims for drugs; including antidepressants, antipsychotics, statins; medical devices; and vaccinations, including those for Hepatitis B, HPV, and the flu.
Our goal is to empower citizens with accurate information so that they can exercise their right to informed consent to medical research and medical procedures within clinical care. As a citizens’ watchdog group, AHRP brings to public attention specific unethical violations of informed consent wherever they occur.
Position Statement Regarding Essential Research Safeguards for Human Subjects:
Medical research is not standard medical care: research involves a high level of uncertainty and, therefore, risk. In standard care the selection of a treatment and the dose/or level of an intervention is based on the physician’s clinical judgment of what the best therapeutic choice is to meet an individual patient’s clinical condition and need.
Within the research arena, treatment is determined by a study protocol that seeks to resolve uncertainty and contribute to generalizable knowledge. The treatment provided within the research context is not necessarily determined by a medical doctor to be in the best interest of the individual patient/subject. Human subjects enrolled in research will always be exposed to risk. At a minimum, they may receive a placebo or a less effective treatment than they would in standard care. In the worst case, human subjects may be irrevocably harmed and may even die due to the treatment being tested, the experimental procedures used, or a needed treatment withheld.
Human subjects of research have no guarantee that if they incur an injury during an experiment, they will receive medical treatment without cost, nor that their family will be compensated for a permanent disability or death. Many clinical trials that are conducted by or on behalf of pharmaceutical companies are performed off-shore, mostly in very poor, illiterate populations.
The Alliance for Human Research Protection recommends 5 Essential Safeguards for ALL human subjects in clinical trials.
Informed consent should never be abrogated for any research involving human subjects, under any circumstances, in any country, regardless of local standards and regardless of the type of research. For this safeguard to be meaningful, researchers must fully disclose the known and foreseeable risks, and the person who is being asked to be a subject, must be capable of understanding potential risks and benefits, before being asked to consent.
Patients who volunteer to be human subjects must be fully informed about all the foreseeable risks—including the risks associated with randomization, which requires patients to be on a fixed dose, level or combination of a tested treatment compared to usual treatment in current care.
Strict treatment protocols may result in suboptimal patient outcomes, whether the research is classified as “comparative effectiveness research” or any other classification, in which a new treatment or a fixed dose of a treatment must be tested against another fixed dose. There must always be an option to diverge from the protocol when a patient’s life or health is endangered by strict adherence to it.
All clinical trials must include a true standard of care comparator arm, to protect human beings from exploitation in poorly designed clinical trials; and to ensure that treatment practices that fail to improve on current standard of care are not adopted as practice guidelines based on flawed comparative trial designs.
There are currently no mandatory licensure requirements for researchers conducting research on human subjects. AHRP recommends that those who conduct medical research involving human beings should be required to undergo rigorous training on how to minimize risks and demonstrate proficiency in ethical and clinical standards, BEFORE they can be licensed to conduct medical experiments in human beings.

Having followed a rather circuitous route into his formal training in Human Sexuality by studies in both Eastern (Totality Therapy) and Western traditions (Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality), Paul is a long-time student of yoga and meditation, a painter, sculptor, and singer-songwriter who has dedicated most of his adult life to exploring creative avenues of expression and practice that lead to a fuller understanding of the lived human experience.
Born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1962, Paul graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA in 1985 with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine and a Post-Doctoral Specialty Certification in Periodontology in 1990, upon which he held post-doctoral teaching positions as Assistant Professor of Periodontology at the University of Pennsylvania and Associate Professor of Periodontology at Temple University before returning to private practice in Cape Town.
Unbeknownst to him at the time, his return to the new South Africa framed the starting point of a profound and earnest self-enquiry. He quickly embarked on the study and practice of subtle body energy and healing through a school of Shiatzu. For fourteen years, he brought his passion commitment and attention to the facilitation, leadership and mentorship within the field of men’s consciousness work where he journeyed alongside thousands of men who longed to live lives of greater meaning and discover deeper purpose and joy.
Pulling from the rich traditions that Paul ascribes to his childhood spent in a home filled with the literature and conversation of his father who was a practicing gynaecologist, obstetrician and sex therapist, he grew in the comfortableness and awareness that his father’s work and passion had offered him: an open curiosity and respect for the gravitas of sex and its vibrant intersection of pleasure, intimacy, consciousness and human potential.
That respect, fascination and humility, which Paul expresses for the complex mechanisms of the human body—including the interplay of its multiple systems that he began to learn at home from his father’s medical books and the subsequent surgical skills acquired in his own medical training, continue to inform his “archaeological dig” into the interpersonal and societal costs of secrecy and disappeared conversations around sex as it impacts who we become and our capacity for intimacy. Acknowledging these costs, including the “hardwired” nature of men for sex and the degree to which the dynamics of being “hardwired for sex” become settled and wholly integrated within the man, provides the framework for a man’s initial and ongoing enquiry to improve his focus and alignment towards a life well-lived.
SEXED is offered specifically for, although not limited to, the heterosexual man as a tool to develop personal methods of enquiry into greater self-understanding, meaningful sex and conscious relating. It is a remedy to many of the “disappeared conversations” in men’s lives that work to our disadvantage while leaving vast chasms in our human potential.

The Natural Health Products Protection Association is federally incorporated as a non-profit organization with the sole objective of:
Protecting Access to Natural Health Products and Dietary Supplements.
By limiting its purpose to protecting access to Natural Health Products and Dietary Supplements, the NHPPA will focus on identifying and responding to threats facing the Natural Health Product and Dietary Supplement industry. In essence, the NHPPA will act as an industry watchdog.
STRUCTURE OF NHPPA
When consulting industry members on the structuring of the NHPPA, small and medium sized manufacturers voiced concern about the NHPPA being taken over by large companies if a membership organization structure was adopted. Whether or not this concern is warranted, there is a perception that some trade organizations in both Canada and the U.S. operate for the benefit of large members when the interests of large and small manufacturers conflict. For example, the Natural Products Association and the Council for Responsible Nutrition in the U.S. were cited as groups supporting the FDA’s Interim Final Rule on Good Manufacturing Practices for Dietary Supplements. Support for this Interim Final Rule is viewed as significant in that the new GMPs are expected to drive many small and medium manufacturers out of business. The FDA states in the Rule:
“We find that this final rule will have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities…Establishments with above average costs, and even establishments with average costs, could be hard pressed to continue to operate. Some of these may decide it is too costly and either change product lines or go out of business. The regulatory costs of this final rule will also discourage new small businesses from entering the industry. The DS [industry] has been characterized by substantial entry of small businesses”.
Because the NHPPA views the survival of small and medium manufacturers as vital to the NHP industry, it was decided to adopt a board-only structure. Voting membership is limited to 5 to 7 members who are responsible for electing the NHPPA Board. This prevents the NHPPA from being taken over to promote the interests of one segment of the industry at the expense of other segments of the industry.
At the same time, the NHPPA views it at essential to involve all of its stakeholders in the decision making and direction of the NHPPA. This:
ensures that the NHPPA is moving in the direction its stakeholders want it to move in;
ensures that the NHPPA is getting the benefit of the input of its stakeholders, and
better positions the NHPPA to obtain the co-operation of its stakeholders in working together on initiatives the stakeholders have requested.
The reality is, if you like what we are doing you will support us. If you don’t like what we are doing you won’t.

Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride : graduated with Honours as a Medical Doctor in 1984 from Bashkir Medical University in Russia. In the following years she gained a Postgraduate MMedSci Degree in Neurology.After practising for five years as a Neurologist and three years as a Neurosurgeon she started a family and moved to the UK. Fairly shortly after that her son was diagnosed autistic, which prompted an intensive study into causes and treatments of autism. It was during this time that Dr Campbell-McBride developed her theories on the relationship between neurological disorders and nutrition, and completed a second Postgraduate Degree in Human Nutrition at Sheffield University, UK. She practiced in the UK as a nutritionist and not as a medical doctor.
Dr Campbell-McBride used to run the Cambridge Nutrition Clinic. Having trained thousands of Certified GAPS Practitioners around the world, Dr Natasha has closed her clinic in order to focus on writing and teaching. As a nutritionist she has specialised in using nutritional approach as a treatment, and has become recognised as one of the world’s leading experts in treating children and adults with learning disabilities and other mental disorders, as well as children and adults with digestive and immune disorders.
In 2004 she has published her first book Gut And Psychology Syndrome. Natural Treatment Of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Depression And Schizophrenia where she explores the connection between the patient's physical state and brain function. A second edition of this book came out in 2010. The book gives full details of the GAPS Nutritional Protocol, highly successful in treating patients with learning disabilities and other mental problems. Since the publication of this book GAPS has become a global movement.
At the end of 2007 her second book was published: Put Your Heart In Your Mouth! What Really Is Heart Disease And What We Can Do To Prevent And Even Reverse It. Dr Campbell-McBride explained: “GAPS is my life’s work. GAPS Diet includes plentiful supply of natural animal fats and cholesterol rich foods, such as eggs. We live in a world of fat phobia and cholesterol phobia based on a faulty hypothesis. In order to explain what actually causes heart disease and how to deal with it I decided to write a book about it.” This book is an essential read for anyone who is interested in the subject of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease and other manifestations of metabolic syndrome.
In her work Dr Natasha came across many young people who have chosen a plant-based lifestyle and, as a result, became very ill. This prompted an intense study into the value of plant foods versus animal foods. The result of that study is her book Vegetarianism Explained. Making an Informed Decision, published in 2017. Dr Campbell- McBride gives the full scientific description of how animal and plant foods are digested and used by the human body. This book is an essential read for those who are considering a plant- based lifestyle. It is important to understand all the dangers of vegetarianism and veganism for human health, and all the destructive influences of arable agriculture (growing plants) on the planet Earth.
The year 2020 was marked by publishing the second GAPS book Gut And Physiology Syndrome. Natural Treatment For Allergies, Autoimmune Illness, Gut Problems, Arthritis, Fatigue, Hormonal Problems, Neurological Disease And More. This book completes the GAPS concept, focussing on the whole human body. Autoimmune illnesses, hormonal and neurological disease, allergies, asthma, skin problems, chronic infections and chronic inflammation, chronic fatigue syndrome and many other chronic degenerative conditions are discussed in this book. The full spectrum of the GAPS Diet and all other aspects of healing are described in this book. It is an essential read for those who want to truly heal from any degenerative disease.
Dr Natasha is a regenerative farmer. In 2012 her family has purchased some land in East Anglia in the UK, damaged by industrial agriculture. Since then this land has been converted into an organic and biodynamic paradise with many animals, birds, bees, gardens and orchards. What is GAPS?
Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAP Syndrome or GAPS) is a condition establishing a connection between the functions of the digestive system and the brain.
This term was coined by
Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD, MMedSci (neurology), MMedSci (human nutrition)
in 2004 after working with hundreds of children and adults with neurological and psychiatric conditions, such as autistic spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD), schizophrenia, dyslexia, dyspraxia, depression, obsessive –compulsive disorder, bi-polar disorder and other neuro-psychological and psychiatric problems.
Gut and Physiology Syndrome includes chronic physical conditions which stem from an unhealthy gut, such as all autoimmune conditions (celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes type one, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, autoimmune skin problems, Hashimoto disease and other hormonal problems, etc.), asthma, eczema, various allergies, food allergy and intolerance, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple many endocrine disorders (thyroid, adrenal and other), chronic infections, many neurological diseases and all chronic digestive disorders (such as irritable bowel syndrome, gastritis, colitis, etc).
The collective bacteria that reside along the GI tract is referred to as your gut microbiome.
